Kamáres

Peloponnese, GR

__Kamáres__ is a new and imposing sector almost facing the monastery at Élona, and up and to the right of sector Liméri. It comprises two large caves with stalactites, plus the wall in between, and an exceptional side wall to the right. __Climbing__ Contrasting. On the one hand, what stands out is the overhanging east wall with exceptional, demanding routes in higher grades (7b–8c) on some wonderful features. On the other hand, several routes, especially the easier ones, still need cleaning of loose rock, or they have chossy parts. Routes were equipped for the AOS Project in 2016/17. __Gear__ A single 80m rope + 16 QDs (up to 24 QDs for the extensions). Helmets are highly recommended. __Conditions__ Warm. Good for climbing on cloudy days, or on dry days in winter. The east wall is good for afternoon climbing in spring and fall. __Shade (Exposure: S, E)__ After 16:30 on the right (east). Sun everywhere else. __Kids__ No.
