Pounta

Peloponnese, GR

__Pounta__ is a remote crag for those who prefer to avoid the more popular, i.e. crowded, sectors. But more than that, the rock quality rock and climbing style are unique for Leonidio. Routes require a good feel for balance and old-school climbing skills. And the view, is one of the most impressive in Leonidio. See above! So, what’s the catch? Well, the path is long, the bolting is not very good, and the routes need more cleaning from loose rock. Experienced climbers who are comfortable in a mountain setting will feel more at home here. Still, because Pounta has all the potential to become an exceptional sector, we do plan to clean and correct the routes at a future point. Most recently (December 2020), our team cleaned and bolted two unfinished lines, KOULOHERIS and THE WIZARD OF ROSE. __Climbing__ Very technical vertical or off-vertical “Spartan” wall climbing. Most routes start on a grey wall and then on to orange rock with sparse holds and footholds. Rock quality is particularly good and solid, but with the occasional loose blocks that must be cleaned. The bolting is OK overall, but not encouraging. Most of the 18 routes here at the time of writing range from 6c–7b. __Gear__ A single 70m rope + 18 QDs. __Conditions__ With afternoon shade, it is good for afternoon climbing in spring and autumn, or morning climbing on sunny winter days or cloudy days. __Shade (Exposure: SE)__ After 16:00. __Kids__ No.
